Landing a spot at a National Law University (NLU) is a remarkable achievement but when it comes to final placements, the actual outcomes might surprise you. The latest placement figures from 2025 reveal an important truth: being from an NLU doesn’t automatically translate to a job offer.
Key Placement Stats from Leading NLUs (2025)
University | Total Students | Students Placed | % Placed | Highest Package |
NUALS Kochi | Not reported | 20 | Not disclosed | Not disclosed |
MNLU Mumbai | 120 | 42 | 35% | ₹25 lakh |
RMLNLU Lucknow | 176 | 30 | 17% | ₹22.5 lakh |
NLU Odisha | 80 (participated) | 50 | 62.5% | ₹22.5 lakh |
RMLNLU Lucknow: Out of 176 students, only 30 secured placements—just over 17%. Most didn’t participate in placements, but even among those who did, only half received jobs.
MNLU Mumbai: 42 of 120 found jobs through placements—a little over one-third of the batch.
NLU Odisha: 50 of 80 students who opted in secured jobs, an above-average rate compared to peers, but still evidence that jobs are not universal.
NUALS Kochi: Latest report confirms 20 placements, with no detailed statistics on the total eligible.
The Real Message: Numbers Speak Louder Than Hype
Many NLUs see less than half their batch placed through campus recruitment.
Selective recruiting by top law firms and large corporates leaves many students to seek opportunities via off-campus routes, higher studies, or alternative careers.
Why Do Some NLU Graduates Miss Out?
Not all students participate—some choose higher studies, exams, or alternate career explorations. But even among those who do, the competition is intense.
Top salaries highlight exceptional outcomes, not average results. Median figures (like ₹10.5–₹14.33 lakh) show the true middle ground.
Recruiters hire selectively, prioritizing internships, practical skills, and job-readiness over just the reputation of your law school.
